Despair

Love has died,
And she is gone.

No harsh words.
No angry quarrel or lover’s fight.
Still, alone am I now, and irretrievable my love.

No sleep, nor dreams to end the tortured days.
And everlasting fills the time with silence.
Silence and more silence,
Like sanguine death,
Hanging stagnant on gray air
That once gave life.

Her sick heart will bleed in mine for ever,
Like a cancer to consume my soul.
