Sonnet III

When cold winds breathe and take away my love,
In days, months, or in some other time returning,
The ruined songs of sparrows fade quickly from above
And all that is my heart, in time’s fire, is burning.

What carefree laugh, or happy smile for me
Will return here as she does? Till then,
My trust and faith must serve my eyes to see
The warm and tender joys we’ll share again.

I will defeat this time, and wait with haste,
For endurance will make reunion more
And more passionate my love’s embrace
When winter winds return her to my door.

Love tempers human hearts to carry on,
And so I live, through times when she is gone.
